PDP Crisis: Ayu Asked To Resign, Surrender To EFCC For Probe

A former member of the House of Representatives, Ogbonna Nwuke, has criticized the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, for saying that he won’t resign from his position.

Naija News report that Ayu was reacting to calls by the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who has allegedly been calling for his resignation as a condition for peace and to support the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday,  Ayu stressed that he is not bothered by the calls for his resignation and will not leave his position. The PDP Chairman also described those plotting his removal as party chairman as children.

Speaking to The PUNCH in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Nwuke slammed Ayu for describing those calling for his resignation as children, describing his comment as unfortunate.

The loyalist of Wike also stated that the PDP chairman is not considering the future implications of his actions ahead of the 2023 elections.

He said, “I think Ayu is not looking at the bigger picture. First, let’s even look at his euphemism of children. I am confident that Ayu knows that anyone who has gone above the age of 18 is an adult in this country. Our constitution says so.

“And then men are holding responsibilities, men are performing in their offices. Men are holding strong in the interest of this nation. And the best Ayu can do is to refer to them as children. I think it is very unfortunate. Even his own son who is beyond 23, 30 years as the case may be; Ayu cannot speak to him like that, because such a person is an adult and is accountable to himself.
