The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has revealed a point about the 2023 elections on which he agrees with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports Obi on Wednesday, revealed that he agrees with Buhari that money-bag politicians who plan to rig the 2023 elections must be resisted.

He made his mind known in a personally signed Twitter post on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the former Anambra State Governor, the right of Nigerians to choose their leaders through the polls without undue interference must not be infringed upon.

He wrote: “I share fully in the sentiments and views attributed to H.E @MBuhari on the need to resist ‘money bag’ politicians who plan to rig 2023 elections. Our democracy has come of age; and the people’s right to elect leaders of their choice should not be infringed upon.”

His position follows the declaration on Tuesday by President Buhari during a meeting with Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he won’t interfere in the 2023 elections.

According to the President, non-interference in elections gives credence to the political process, ensures participation and inclusiveness, and shows that the governing party respects the electorate.

Religion Should Not Be Used To Manipulate Politics

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah has stated that using religion to manipulate politics never produces good results, warning that such comes with negative consequences.

He cited an example of what happened in Germany during the reign of Adolf Hitler, warning that Nigeria must not go that route.

The cleric gave the warning while speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during the presentation of his new book, “Broken Truth,” as part of activities lined up for his 70th birthday.

He said, “If you look at history, there is a consequence for using religion to manipulate politics. We just need to look at Germany. The consequences are there to see in Hitler.

“The problem is that the Nigerian political elites lack the mental capacity to understand the consequences of the fire they are stoking because there is nothing to suggest that the average person who is living in the north, who is Fulani, who is a Muslim, or who is Hausa, can say that they are proud of the Nigerian political system, beyond a very tiny percentage.

“So, if you decide that you want to give privilege to a religion or an ethnic group, what will happen is that others automatically become outsiders.”
