19 Killed As Bandits, Vigilantes Clash In Taraba

Suspected armed bandits on Friday evening, reportedly attacked and killed 13 people including vigilante members in Karekuka village in Gassol local government area of Taraba State.

A local source who confirmed the incident to Naija News on Saturday said six local vigilante members were part of those who lost their lives in the attack while many others were also injured.

The source however disclosed that the vigilantes also killed six of the bandits.

The source also told our correspondent that, the bandits also attacked Garin Gidado community on Saturday morning but no one was killed in the attack.

Taraba State Police Command has also confirmed the attack and said, officers have been drafted to the scene to restore normalcy and also convey the corpses to a nearby morgue as investigations commence.

Insecurity: SEMA Advocates N500m Monthly Upkeep For Benue IDPs

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, on Saturday advocated that the state needs approximately N500million monthly to provide the basic needs of its close to two million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Shior made the claim in Makurdi while flagging off the monthly distribution of food and non-food items to the official and unofficial IDPs camps in the state, lamenting that the humanitarian crisis in the state occasioned by armed herdsmen attacks had overwhelmed the state government.

He alleged that the state government was struggling with the burden without support from the Federal Government saying, the state need about N500million to take care of the basic needs of the IDPs on a monthly basis.
