NLC Nationwide Protest: Adamawa State Records Peaceful Protest As Governor Promotes PVC Collection
Scene from the Adamawa NLC protest

The nationwide Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) protest held in Yola, the Adamawa state capital on Tuesday, went on peacefully with the Nigeria Police providing necessary security cover for members.

The protest match in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which started from the NLC Secretariat went through some major streets in Yola before terminating at the government house in Yola.

Presenting the letter of protest to the state governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe said “the prolonged ASUU strike which is over five months now has become a source of great concern to parents.”

Stressing that “NLC and all the organized labour movement in the country is lending its voice to that of the students and parents to tell the Federal government that ” Enough is Enough” that government must see it as a matter of urgency to address this problem.”

Adding that the continuous stay of our children at home does not mean well for our children and the consequences of their stay at home can be better imagined than explain.

Comrade Fashe also said that NLC is more worried because while the children of the masses and the poor are at home hoping against hope, the rich particularly the politicians are travelling abroad to celebrate their children’s graduation ceremonies.

In his remark, the governor of Adamawa state, Ahamdu Umuru Fintiri said “I congratulate you for the peaceful protest and I also appreciate your coming, the support of the Labour movement in the state my administration is getting and I want to assure you that I will deliver your message to Mr. President.”

Fintiri Declares Work-free Days For PVC Collection

Represented by the Head of Service in the state, Dr Amos Edgar, the governor used the opportunity to encourage civil servants in the state to go and get their PVC so that they can make their voice to be heard through the ballot box in 2023.

He also approved Thursday and Friday as work-free days for those who have not done so to go and get their PVCs.
