Just In: Court Remands PDP Rivers Governorship Aspirant, Farah Dagogo

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Farah Dagogo has been granted bail by a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The lawmaker representing Degema–Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives was granted bail on Tuesday after being detained for 62 days.

The court granted Dagogo bail to the tune of N20 million or a surety in like sum with a landed property worth the same amount.

The embattled lawmaker was granted bail by Justice Chiwendu Nworgu after listening to all arguments by his counsel and counsel to the Rivers State government.

Recall that the governorship aspirant was arrested by police operatives on the 28th of April at the venue of the screening exercise for the PDP’s governorship aspirants in Port Harcourt.

Dagogo was detained by the police less than four days after the state Governor, Nyesom Wike declared him wanted for allegedly hiring suspected cultists to disrupt a screening exercise at the party secretariat.

The lead counsel to Dagogo, Cosmos Enweluzo, while speaking outside the court said he was happy that the lawmaker there has been granted bail but wondered why the court took over two months to grant the defendant bail.

In his words, “Where there is rule of law, the right and liberty of a citizen must be respected and honoured. We are talking about a citizen who is a member of the National Assembly. But in all things, we give glory to God and also express profane gratitude to the Judge for extending his discretion and magnanimity”.
