Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh said that the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, is the candidate to beat in the 2023 presidential election.
The former Anambra Central Senator stated this during a media chat with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, in Awka, on Tuesday.
Umeh asserted that Obi is the best candidate in the presidential race, adding that the former governor is a revolution and a force to be reckoned with.
He said: “My joy is that Nigerians from all shades of life and opinions want Peter Obi as president in 2023 and what is happening in LP is divine. We must all contribute our quota to make it work.
“Peter Obi is a revolution. He is the best. Peter Obi is not a career politician.
“He should be allowed for the seat to enable him to address the current security, social and political challenges confronting the country at the moment.
“What is driving him are statements he makes on the management of the resources of the country which truly represent his conduct on the ways public resources should be managed.”
Umeh stressed that Obi and the Labour Party backed by the loud support of millions of Nigerians would address the bitter experience of the nation.
“If you look at the Presidential primaries of the APC and the PDP, the Igbo would have buried their heads in shame if not for Peter Obi and Labour Party.
“Nigerians of all shades of opinion are rallying around Peter Obi. Nigerians must show commitment and love. What is happening is divine, Obi is a hot brand.
“We are urging Nigerians to rally round Peter Obi. Peter Obi stands for good of Nigeria and its citizens. That hope Nigerians need is Peter Obi, even in the midst of plenty he cannot waste the resources. Obi’s movement is a revolution that will take Nigeria far. He is a role model.
“The support of Nigerians for Peter Obi is giving sleepless nights and serious scare to members of the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and other parties ahead of the 2023 elections.
“The APC, PDP and other political parties are afraid of Peter Obi because of his resolve to banish poverty and ability to manage resources.”
Speaking on his defection to the LP, Umeh said Obi invited him to join the party after he discovered a high-level conspiracy by some APGA members against his senatorial ambition.
The former APGA national chairman stated that Obi asked him to join the LP and vie for the Anambra Central Senatorial ticket.
He revealed that his defection was also an opportunity for him to reconcile his political differences with Obi which got soared 10 years ago.
“There was a conspiracy not to allow me to win the primary election, and immediately after that, I received a call from Mr Peter Obi to come over to Labour Party to vie for Anambra Central Senatorial ticket. I welcomed the idea and also see it as an opportunity to reconcile with him,” he said.
