The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday stated that both motorcyclists and passengers who fail to obey the new ban on Okada operations in the state will be arrested and prosecuted.

The spokesman to the state command, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced this in a statement on Twitter.

He wrote, “Under the new total ban of motorcycles in six local government areas of Lagos State, passengers and riders alike will be arrested and prosecuted. The passenger is an accomplice. Ignorance will not be an excuse!”

This is coming after Lagos State Government banned the operation of commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada, in six Local Government Areas of the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this while briefing heads of security agencies in the state at a meeting at the State House, Ikeja on Wednesday.

The governor stated that the total ban on Okada in the six local councils takes effect from June 1, 2022, and would be fully enforced.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) under the six local government areas would also be affected.

The governor listed the six affected local councils as Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island and Apapa.
