Naira/Fuel Scarcity: Buhari To Convene Emergency Council Of State Meeting Friday

Following the widespread killing in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with the National Council of State.

Naija News reports that the council of state meeting which started at 10 am, is being held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

It is understood that the ongoing meeting is the fourth session under the Buhari administration  with the first being held on October 21, 2015

Some of the past Nigerian leaders physically present at the meeting include Goodluck Jonathan, Abdusalami Abubakar, and Yakubu Gowon.

While former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and other governors joined the meeting virtually.

Also present at the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, and National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

State governors in attendance are Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state among others. Other governors are attending virtually.

The details of Thursday’s meeting have not been made public yet but it is expected that the meeting was convened to address the matters of insecurity and the worsening economy.

Before the commencement of proceedings, the council observed a minute silence in honour of the former head of Interim Government, Ernest Shonekan, who died on January 11, 2022.
