Boko Haram Fires Rocket Into Maiduguri Ahead Of Buhari’s Visit

The Nigerian Army has announced that more than 7,000 members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered.

The army said the bandits had surrendered in the past one week, Naija News reports.

Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, Theartre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) made this known on Wednesday.

He said their consistent operations against ISWAP and Boko Haram led to the latest development.

Thousands of insurgents comprising of combatants, non combatants, foot soldiers alongside their families, continued to lay down their arms in different parts of Borno”, he noted.

The bandits and their families are to be profiled by the Army and others before they undergo rehabilitation processes.

Musa assured that the military and other security agencies will continue to devise and implement strategies to end terrorism.

About 30,000 insurgents and their families have surrendered in the last nine months.

The OPHK, launched in April 30, 2021, was formerly known as Operation Lafiya Dole.

Meanwhile, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has approved N92.123 billion for the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Naija News reports that the fund was approved on Wednesday (today) during the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Buhari. Read more
