ASSU Strike: Reactions As Education Minister, Adamu Meet Buhari In London

The meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in London has stirred reactions online.

Naija News reports Buhari had on Wednesday met with Adamu and the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, in London over the leadership crisis rocking the party.

Hours after the news broke, Nigerians took to social media to slam the minister for failing to address the demands made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

They blamed Adamu for the extension of the strike by eight weeks due to the failure of the Federal Government to address the issues it raised in a 2020 FGN/ASUU agreement.

Nigerians said the minister should be in Nigeria looking for ways to resolve the crisis facing the Nigerian educational system and not in London discussing APC issues.

Some of the reactions are below:

@OlaniranEmmanu9 wrote: “I hope Adamu Adamu was on this entourage to go inform the president of the ASSU strike?? Not forgetting that this is so shameless.

@DeborahToluwase wrote: “My own is that why is the education minister, Adamu Adamu in London while ASUU strike is on??

@ChidiOdinkalu wrote: “Nigeria’s students are at home with their parents because the universities are shuttered.

“Meanwhile, in London, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu goes to school in the APC House of #FailedCoup.”

@FaruqShamo wrote: “This picture talks bad. Here are leaders of a nation facing a crisis in every aspect.

“Buni left his state in shambles for party business, Bubu left 9ja wit energy crisis, Adamu Adamu left ASUU in strike! But all of them r smiling like they’ve achieved success. Who did we offend?

@comrkwada wrote: “Buhari: Minister of petroleum= no fuel, no electricity in the country. Mallam Adamu Adamu, minister of education= schools on strike.

“Gov. Mai Mala Bumi, chairman APC Convention Planning Committee = the APC committee divided like never before.”

@NaseerAjumawa wrote: “Adamu Adamu set Nigerian educational system on crisis.

“Mai Mala Buni has created diversity and chaos in their party APC. Buhari has finished Nigeria at all levels.

“But they are there in London chilling comfortably.”

@whitneyy_001 wrote: “When the NANS president talked to that man called Adamu Adamu, y’all said he was rude. ASUU is on strike and he is in London.
