Police Officers Arrested Over Shooting Of Eruwa Poly Student

Police officers allegedly involved in the shooting of one Samuel Akinsuyi, a student at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State have been arrested.

Naija News had reported earlier that Samuel, a Business Administration student at the Eruwa Poly was beaten and then shot in the leg by an unidentified police officer during a stop and search.

The undergraduate was on his way from Eruwa to Ibadan when he was attacked last Friday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command confirmed the arrest of the personnel involved.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko had ordered full-scale investigations into events that led to the unfortunate incident.

The police mouthpiece said operatives involved have all been identified and nailed while the command is currently investigating the case.

Osifeso said a debrief is ongoing, accompanied immediately by the commencement of their orderly room trials.

“In furtherance to the above, the Commissioner of Police, therefore, appeals for calm and affirms the assurances of a thorough and diligent investigation with adequate sanctions meted out in accordance to relevant laws and statutes,” the PS said while promising that updates would be given on the matter in due course.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, popularly known as Erelu Okin, over her controversial party in the state.

Recall that she distributed kegs of petrol as souvenirs at the event which was held in Havilah Events Centre in Oniru, Victoria Island, on March 4.

The spokesman of the command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement released on Tuesday disclosed that Ogbolu was charged to court on Monday.

Ogbolu was arraigned on a four-count charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, endangering human life by distributing combustible matter in a public gathering.

Other charges levelled against her include, intent to do harm to another, unlawful storage and containerising petroleum product without a permit, Naija News reports.

It was gathered that Ogbolu was brought before the Special Offences (Mobile) Court of Lagos State at Oshodi under Ikeja Magisterial District.

The spokesman, however, did not reveal if Ogbolu pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against her or not.
