Executive Order 10: Shehu Sani Reacts As Governors Win Against Buhari At The Supreme Court

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the victory won at the Supreme Court by the 36 state governors against the executive order 10 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It will be recalled that the apex court of Friday, declared executive order 10 issued by President Buhari as unlawful and unconstitutional.

Naija News reports six out of the seven-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled against the executive order and gave victory to the state governors who had challenged the declaration by the President.

The apex court by its ruling has now set aside executive order 10 also known as the financial autonomy order.

This online platform reports that the order is for the implementation of Financial Autonomy for the State Legislature and Judiciary.

The Supreme Court however said the States were not entitled to be refunded all they have spent before now to maintain those courts and therefore threw out their N66bn request.

Reacting to the development, Sani in a post on his Twitter page on Saturday said while the ruling of the Supreme Court is well respected, the idea behind the executive order is a good one as the independence of the judiciary and legislative arms can’t be guaranteed if the governors continue to fund them.

He wrote: “The decision of the Supreme Court is well respected, but the spirit of the executive order 10 is good; We can never have an independent Judiciary and legislature at the state level as long as the funding of those institutions are at the will or pleasure of the state Governors.”
