Osinbajo Presides Over FEC Meeting Days Before APC Presidential Primary

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Bwala has declared that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will not contest the 2023 presidential election.

According to him apart from a lack of interest in the presidency on the part of Osinbajo, there are other vital reasons the Vice President won’t be running for the 2023 presidency.

Bwala stated that the fact that Osinbajo’s political benefactor, Asiwaj Bola Tinubu has already declared intention for the 2023 presidential race makes it morally wrong for the Vice President to also join the race.

Naija News reports Bwala made his views known on Tuesday during an interview session with Channels TV’s Politics Today.

“Yemi Osinbajo is not running for President,” Bwala declared emphatically.

“He is not interested,” he added.

“I think I know the wisdom behind why VP Osinbajo is not running and he is shooting down every attempt to point towards that”.

Bwala added that rather than contest, he strongly believes Osinbajo would support the 2023 ambition of Tinubu.

“He may have understood that the general principle of equity and fairness is that one good turn deserves another. He had a principal who supported him for eight years and because Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) has indicated interest, morally, not legally, it would be injurious for the Vice President to express interest.

“Secondly, there’s an idea that if someone has helped you and indicated interest, your best bet is to go about supporting him with the hope that he doesn’t get it, he will now throw his weight behind you but you will not challenge him and I think that since the Vice President is not interested, it is important that he comes out and downplay his supporters and support Asiwaju, because if you continue to leave people in limbo, there is going to be a crisis between your supporters and his supporters,” he said.

Naija News recalls that only recently, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has denied planning to declare his intentions to run for the presidency in 2023 immediately after the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention.

It would be recalled that reports surfaced online on Monday claiming that Osinbajo would declare his presidential ambition after he made up his mind to join the presidential race that has the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Rochas Okorocha and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

According to the reports, the vice president decided to announce his presidential bid following a high-level discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari and some party stakeholders.

However, in a statement through his spokesman, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo clarified that the report making the rounds is false and speculative.
