1. Tinubu Confirms Presidential Ambition, Says He Has Informed Buhari

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday confirmed he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition.

Naija News reports that the former Lagos State governor disclosed this to State Correspondents after a meeting at the Presidential Villa with Buhari.

While noting that he is yet to publicly disclose his ambition, Tinubu stated that he was still in consultations with various individuals and groups across the country.

Tinubu stated that his ambition to be President has been a life-long ambition, noting that what he did in Lagos in his time as Governor, he has the capacity to do in the entire country.

The APC national leader refused to comment when asked about the presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

On why he would not remain a kingmaker, Tinubu said nothing stops a kingmaker from becoming the king unless he has committed murder.

2. Security Operatives Take Over National Assembly As Workers Protest Unpaid Allowances

Security operatives on Monday took over the National Assembly complex following the protest embarked on by legislative workers over the non-payment of their salaries and allowances.

Naija News gathered that the workers under the auspices of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) closed all the entrances into the assembly singing solidarity songs and carrying placards with different inscriptions.

In order to avoid the breakdown of law and order, operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) and police officers manned every exit in the assembly complex

Some of the hooded operatives were seen in two Hilux vehicles at the entrance of the legislative building.

3. Anti-Buhari Comments: Kukah Speaks On His Alleged Arrest By DSS

The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Kukah, has denied reports that he has been arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS).

Several reports emerged over the weekend that Kukah was invited to the DSS headquarters for questioning regarding his recent comments about President Muhammadu Buhari and his handling of bandits.

In his Christmas Day sermon, the Bishop had accused Buhari of failing to curtail the activities of terrorists, bandits and other violent criminals who had embarked on a coordinated and relentless rampage across the country.

The popular clergyman also slammed the president for failing to curb nationwide insecurity.

4. What Buhari Told Tinubu After He Informed Him About Contesting 2023 Presidency

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has disclosed President Muhammadu Buhari’s response after he informed him of his 2023 presidential ambition.

The APC leader disclosed that President Buhari didn’t object to his 2023 presidential ambition.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that the former Lagos State Governor on Monday confirmed he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition.

After their meeting, the APC National Leader had a chat with newsmen at the Villa where he was asked how Buhari responded to the information on his presidential ambition.

Tinubu said: “He’s a democrat, he didn’t ask me to stop. He didn’t ask me not to attempt and pursue my ambition. It’s a lifelong ambition.

“So, why will I expect him to say more than that? Why do you? You are running a democratic dispensation and you must adopt the principles and virtues of democracy.”

5. We Banned Cows Destroying Farms, Not Beef – IPOB Replies Northern Groups

The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has explained that it banned cows reared by Fulani herdsmen for any social event in the Southeast and not beef as widely reported.

IPOB made the clarification on Monday following the comments made by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) and Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

Recall that the CNG had vowed to resist any attempt by the Biafra group to bring harm to northern businesses in the southeast, threatening to boycott Igbo businesses in the northern region of the country.

The coalition added that it will withdraw support for any political party or movement that has southeast politicians well represented in it.

Also reacting, ACF said the separatists have only called for war following the ban placed on cows reared by Fulani herdsmen for any ceremony in the Southeast.

But in a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB slammed the Northern groups for their outrageous comments over the ban.

The Biafra group said it banned cows destroying farms in the South East and those that bring terrorists and rapists into the region.

6. They Are Satanic, Evil And Criminal Elements – APC Reacts To Zamfara Killing By Bandits

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged security operatives to go after the bandits in the country and deal with them.
The party made the call on Monday in a statement by its National Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe in which it reacted to the recent killing of scores of people in Zamfara State by bandits.

The APC described the bandits as satanic, evil, and criminal elements, urging security agencies to spare no effort in bringing them to justice.

The statement follows the attack on about five villages in Zamfara State last week where Naija News recalls scores of people were killed and several houses set ablaze.

The APC in reaction while commiserating with all those affected by the attack said the terrorists must not go unpunished.

7. Nigerians Will Appreciate Buhari’s Efforts After 2023 – Bashir Ahmad

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad has disclosed the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari will be more appreciated after the expiration of his tenure in 2023.

In a post via his Facebook page on Monday, Ahmad said President Buhari’s government has made reforms that will eventually pay off before the next president is elected.

The Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari claimed that his principal has set the country on the right track for the incoming president to succeed.

He wrote: “The motto that President Buhari has taken will not be seen in public now until after he leaves office. He has set this country on the right track that any incumbent leader should set. Some reform plans are inevitable, but eventually, they will pay off permanently.”

8. EFCC Rearrest Instagram ‘Big Boy’ Mompha

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos State Command, has reportedly rearrested Instagram celebrity, Ismailia Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha.

It was gathered that the suspected internet fraudster was arrested for laundering funds obtained through unlawful activities and retention of alleged proceeds of crime.

Mompha is currently standing trial alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited, on an amended 22-count charge bordering on cyber fraud and money laundering to the tune of N32.9 billion brought against him by the EFCC.

9. 2023 Presidency: South-West Has Qualified Leaders, Tinubu Not One Of Them – Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has berated the leadership quality of the National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the elder statesman, the South-West region has a lot of leaders qualified to become Nigeria’s next president. He, however, said Tinubu was not one of them.

Naija News understands that George stated this while interacting with The PUNCH on Monday, January 10.

The former Deputy-Chairman of the PDP mocked the presidential ambition of the former Governor of Lagos State, saying the politician’s move of becoming the next president of the nation is a huge joke.

It was reported earlier that Tinubu had met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja to inform the leader of his intention to join the 2023 presidential race.

Reacting, however, to Tinubu’s ambition, George said: “This so-called ambition must be a huge joke. The Presidency of Nigeria is not for characters like Bola Tinubu. Look at how he mismanaged the resources of Lagos State.

10. Southwest Should Stop Eating Beef Says Akeredolu’s Govt, Gives Another Alternative

The administration of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has urged the people of the southwest to stop patronizing beef sellers as a way of curbing capital flight in the region.

Akeredolu was quoted to have claimed in his submission that the people of the region spend up to N2.5billion daily on the purchase of beef when there is a cheaper alternative that is produced in the region.

Naija News understands the Governor made the claim at a recent stakeholders’ meeting in the state’s education sector in Akure where he was represented by his special adviser on agriculture, Akin Olotu.

According to him, chicken (broiler) is a cheaper alternative which the people of the region should embrace for their household consumption as well as use in ceremonies.

In his view, there is the need for the southwest to consume what it produces as this will also enhance the region’s economy rather than send the money to another region known for cattle production.
