The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch, Hauwa Shekarau, has died.
Naija News reports that her death was announced in a statement by the branch secretary, Prince Adetosoye.
“It is with a sad heart and the highest sense of loss that I announce the death of our chairman,” he said.
It was gathered that the state chairman died on Wednesday after a brief illness.
According to Adetosoye, more details on the late Shekarau’s burial arrangements would be announced soon.
Shekarau was a gender advocate, human rights activist, a professional mediator and a conciliator.
She had over 25 years post-call experience in women and child rights policy and advocacy, conflict resolution, social research, sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Shekarau graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and was the National President of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Nigeria) between 2012 and 2015.
She had served as a board member of ActionAid International Nigeria and Nigeria Women Trust Fund, League for Human Rights, El-Shaddai Widows Outreach, among others.
