Dutch professional footballer, Georginio Gregion Emile Wijnaldum, better known as Georginio Wijnaldum has shunned Spanish football club, FC Bareclona to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Naija News understands that the former Liverpool FC midfielder has been linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the summer as the Netherland international is not ready to extend his stay at Anfield.

Reports emerging on Tuesday confirmed that the 30-year-old player has agreed to sign a three-year contract with PSG who finished second in Ligue 1 last season, rather than join the Catalans. Wijnaldum had won several trophies with Liverpool during his stay with the club and as well helped the Reds reached the third position on the English Premier League table in the last competition, Naija News reports.

Subject to a medical, the 30-year-old midfielder’s free transfer to the French club will officially take effect once his Liverpool deal expires at the end of this month.

While Barcelona had thought Wijnaldum was joining them and had a medical plan, Wijnaldum embraced PSG who offered twice the wage from Barca following a call from manager Mauricio Pochettino, BBC sports reports.

In another news, Naija News reports that a Nigerian footballer who plied his trade for FC Vitebsk in Belarus, Kelvin Odenigbo, has been found dead after drowning in a lake.

The Belarusian Premier League club confirmed the demise of the 20-year-old striker in a statement on its website on Sunday.

In the statement, the club said Odenigbo drowned and his corpse was found on Saturday by the lake Beloye, a tourist destination in the Vitebsk region.
