Zamfara: Stop Worthless Threats And Take Real Action – Shehu Sani Slams FG

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the decision of the federal government to impose a ‘no-fly-zone’ and also ban mining activities in Zamfara State.

Sani in his reaction via a statement on his Twitter age on Wednesday called on the federal government to stop issuing “ineffectual warnings and worthless threats” but take real action and crush the bandits.

Rather he called on the government to take decisive actions and tackle those responsible for the banditry and other criminal activities in Zamfara and other parts of the Northern region.

He wrote: “If actually, the banditry and violence in Zamfara and other parts of the North West is fueled by proceeds from illegal Gold mining, then it’s time the Government stops its ineffectual warnings & worthless threats, and boldly go for the jugular of the Golden puppeteers.”

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, declared Zamfara a ‘no-fly zone’ and banned all mining activities in the state.

The National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen Babagaba Monguno, while announcing the development in Abuja noted that it is part of the measures to tackle the security challenges in the north-western state.

Monguno disclosed this after a five-hour National Security Council meeting presided over by Buhari at the Presidential Villa in the nation’s capital.

He further stated that all non-state actors have been placed under surveillance as the Federal Government will not hesitate to use kinetic means to restore normalcy in the country.

The NSA said the country’s defence and intelligence organization have been put on alert and charged not to allow the country to slide into a state of anarchy.

Monguno added that Buhari during the meeting directed the new service chiefs to reclaim all areas under the control of bandits, insurgents, and kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has reacted to the decision of the National Security Council to impose a no-fly zone on the state.

Matawalle while reacting to the development when Ekiti State Governor visited him, said he is not sure the federal government understands the situation.

“It seems the security council doesn’t understand where the nature of the security problems in Zamfara state but if they decided to take such action let them go ahead.”

“I’m not afraid of anybody and the problem of insecurity in the state predated my administration.”

“Nigerians are waiting to see the outcome of the security council resolution to see if these bandits would be crushed. If the federal government fails to crush them after this resolution, then Nigerians will understand that they only sat and serve themselves tea, nothing more,” he said.
