The government of Anambra State under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel has approved Monday, February 1, 2021, as the resumption date for primary and secondary schools in the State.

This development was confirmed to newsmen in a statement by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet.

The Commissioner stated that the second term which will resume on Monday amidst full COVID-19 protocols would be concluded on April 1, 2021.

She advised parents and guardians to make facemasks available to their children and wards and ensure lateness is avoided.

Etiebet also told teachers in the state to be committed to their responsibilities and join hands with the state government in executing necessary reforms in the education sector of Akwa Ibom.

“Parents are also expected to provide their children and wards with all the necessary textbooks and writing materials.

“School authorities are charged to ensure provision of hand-washing facilities including running water, hand sanitizers, and thermometers while ensuring that students, pupils, and teachers comply with physical distancing within the school premises.

“Students or teachers who feel sick are advised not to come to school, but seek medical help. The government will not tolerate lateness on the part of the students or teachers just as students caught loitering during school hours will be punished,” she noted in her statement.

The Commissioner reminded school administrators that the State’s Education Monitoring team would be going round for monitoring to ensure total compliance to directives and protocols.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government encourages school children to be serious with their academics in order to make their parents and the State proud.”

“Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to reforming the education sector in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals even as he expects all hands to be on deck towards the realisation of this goal. “

And the Commissioner for Education on behalf of the State Government wishes all students and teachers a successful term”, Etiebet stated.

Meanwhile, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned against viewing nude pictures and video online.

Naija News reports that the popular clergyman may be reacting to the trending #SilhouetteChallenge on social media, where ladies typically dressed while dancing to Paul Anka’s song, ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’ released in 1987, strip when Doja Cats’ song, ‘Streets’ which was released in 2019 comes on.

The women dance under red lights allowing viewers to only see the silhouettes of their naked bodies.
