The Lagos State Government on Thursday directed all public and private schools in the state to reopen all classes for academic activities.

The government directed students and pupils in boarding houses to report to school on Sunday, 1st of November in preparation for the general resumption by Monday, 2nd November, 2020.

The directive was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo which was signed by Kayode Abayomi, Head, Public Affairs, Ministry of Education.

The Commissioner advised pupils/students to take their studies more seriously in a bid to recover the lost period and thereby excel.

The statement reads: “The Lagos State Government has approved the re-opening of schools for all classes in public and private schools across the State beginning from Monday, 2nd of November, 2020 while boarders in public schools are to resume on Sunday, 1st of the same month.”

“Disclosing this today, Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo said that this has been an unprecedented year with the recent happenings that have regrettably led to frequent closure of schools with attendant learning disruptions faced by all children.”

“We pray and hope that there will be no more disruptions in the academic calendar. However, the State Government will always regard the safety of pupils/students, parents and all staff as a matter of priority.”

“We recommend that when schools resume on Monday, teaching and learning should continue unhindered till the end of the term.”

Naija News recalls the schools which were previously shut due to coronavirus pandemic were recently reopened but had to be shut again due to the violence that erupted after hoodlums hijacked the #EndSARS protests.
