Egypt’s Abdel-Hamed Mamdouh has lost his bid for the presidency of the World Trade Organization, other candidates screened out are from Mexico and Moldova.

Only two Africans Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria and Amina Mohamed of Kenya remain in the race.

They will compete in the second round of the race with candidates from South Korea, Britain and Saudi Arabia.

The new president is expected to take office in November.

The WTO sets international trade rules and resolves trade disputes between countries. And as contained in its website,  the organisation’s task includes “opening doors to new business plans for everyone”.
