President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approve the appointment of Chukwuemeka Chukwuka as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner representing Abia State.

Naija News reports that this was made known in an executive communication read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday at the plenary.

Part of the letter reads: “I am delighted to forward the name of Mr Chukwuemeka Chukwuka as INEC Commissioner nominee representing Anambra State.

“This is in consonance with section 14(3) of the 1999 constitution as amended.”

The senate president referred Buhari’s letter to the Senate Committee on INEC to revert in two weeks time.

Meanwhile, President Buhari on Tuesday met with former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa.

Naija News reports that Jonathan arrived at the President’s office at about 11 am.

It was gathered that the meeting might not be unconnected with the recent assignment Jonathan was charged with by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

ECOWAS recently appointed Dr. Jonathan to head the political reconciliation in Mali where there is leadership tussle.
