My Removal From Office Was Corruption Fighting Back - Magu

Following the invitation of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has reacted.

Recall that Naija News today brought you news about Magu, following his alleged arrests by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS). over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party.

He was said to have been arrested at the Wuse II office of the DSS in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital and was undergoing interrogation at the DSS Headquarters In Aso Drive.

However, rumours of his arrests was dismissed in a press release made available to Naija News by Peter Afunanya,  the public relations officer of DSS.

Reacting in a statement shared on its official Twitter handle today, the PDP  said the development confirms malfeasance in EFCC.

The party called for the stepping aside of the Anti-graft agency chairman, so as to hinder him from destroying evidence against him.

PDP further charged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to prove its dedication to the fight against corruption. like it had campaigned against, by allowing the unhindered investigation of the acting Chairman of EFCC.

PDP said the fact that Magu’s lawyer accompanied him when he was given the “invitation”, is beyond the routine.

The tweet said “The PDP holds that the development around the @officialEFCC acting Chairman as well as the desperate attempt by the Commission to cover or waveoff his investigation, only raise more integrity questions regarding Magu’s activities in the EFCC,” the statement added.

“Only last month, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, released a memo in which he indicted Magu of alleged diversion of recovered funds and fraudulent sale of assets seized by the @officialEFCC.”

“Moreover, with the allegations and investigation, Magu has lost the moral rectitude to continue to preside over the anti-corruption agency. He should step aside until he proves himself innocent.”
