The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has reported that a young child has been abandoned to die in Idumota, Lagos State after been struck by thunder.
The development was disclosed on Monday morning in a series of tweets by the executive secretary of the NHRC, Tony Ojukwu who noted that children deserve a better life.
Naija News understands that Mr Tony revealed the occurrence while giving an update on an earlier reported case of sexual assault carried out on a toddler in Lagos State.
According to Tony, the young child and his mother were both affected by the thunder strike but the mother died instantly while the child was abandoned by residents in the terrible situation. He, however, revealed that the child is currently receiving care in a hospital.
Mr Tony tweeted, “With the help of the courageous young lady who shot this video, we have gotten the babies; both the little girl and her brother. In trying to retrieve these children, we also found another child who was struck by thunder in the same community & was left to die.”
“The child who was struck by thunder has a sibling too. The mother of the child struck by thunder was also struck and she died. The child is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”
“We will continue to update on this case. Nigerian children deserve better. We must sit up.”
