N-Power Volunteers Send Message To Buhari Minister

Volunteers of the Federal Government N-Power scheme have asked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq to pay their accumulated monthly stipends.

The N-power volunteers appealed to the federal government to fulfil its promises and pay all beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries lamented bitterly about how they have been surviving especially during this COVID-19 period.

Vivian Ekize, an N-Power volunteer in Lagos State told The Nation, that they had not received stipends for three months, a situation they said, had made life difficult for them and their family members.

“We don’t know what resulted to the selective payment. We are hungry, most especially in this pandemic period; most of us have families to cater for,” another beneficiary, Samuel Bagudu, Jos, said.

The N-Power beneficiaries urged the minister to attend to their demands to avoid any protest.

Naija News reports that the N-Power scheme is a social intervention scheme introduced in 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari, as a two-year programme for graduate and non-graduate Nigerians between the ages of 18-35.

The beneficiaries enjoy N30, 000 monthly stipend, and devices during the duration of their stay in the scheme in exchange for services offered including teaching, agric extension services, health, etc.

N-Power has enrolled 500,000 beneficiaries.

200,000 from Batch A, which started in September 2016, and 300,000 from Batch B that kicked off in August 2018.
