COVID-19: LASUTH Isolates Two Doctors, A Nurse After Contact With Late Patient

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, has disclosed that three of its staffs has been put on isolation following their exposure to a Coronavirus (COVID-19) infected person who later died a few moments ago.

According to the report which was confirmed to newsmen in Lagos on Sunday, April 5 by the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of LASUTH, Dr Ibrahim Mustafa, two doctors and a nurse who had contact with COVID-19 patient who later died on Friday, April 3 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba have been isolated for proper medical check of the global epidemic.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, had earlier gave that deceased COVID-19 patient, 55 years of age was a Holland returnee who joined his family in Lagos two weeks ago.

Prof Abayomi in a tweet confirmed that the patient had a kidney transplant seven years ago, and was also diagnosed with diabetic prior to his test on Coronavirus which he could not survive.

Speaking further about the isolation of the three LUTH staffs, Mustafa said: “The patient did not divulge his travel history and underlying medical conditions to the health workers, but the health workers were suspicious based on his symptoms and warning to exercise caution while attending to patients.

“The health workers that attended to the patient took necessary precautions, but based on the advice of LASUTH Infectious Diseases Consultant, the doctor and nurses that had contact with the patient had been placed on isolation,”

He, however, advised the public to always ensure they cooperate with health workers by giving accurate details of their travel history and medical conditions which would aide in providing them with the right diagnosis and treatment.

He reiterates further by advising also health workers, urging them to always be vigilant and ensure universal precaution while attending to patients.

In another news earlier, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) management on Sunday revealed that one of the three patients who was confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus has died.
