Lagos Announces Traffic Diversion As Iddo Bridge Closes
The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area.
The closure is to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to continue rehabilitation and reconstruction work on the bridge.
Naija News reports that the state government disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
According to the government, the Federal Ministry of Works will install heavy steel bridge beams on the facility as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project.
It explained that the nature of the operation would require a temporary closure of the bridge at scheduled periods to protect motorists, workers and other road users.
The statement read, “The entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge.”
The closure is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The government advised motorists to use designated alternative routes during the closure periods.
It said motorists coming from Oyingbo and Yaba and heading towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should make use of Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.
The statement read, “Motorists travelling from Oyingbo/Yaba to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.”
For motorists coming from Marina towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain, the government advised them to descend the ramp and access Iddo-Onigbe.
It added that they should connect Oyingbo and continue their journeys through Murtala Muhammed Way.
The statement added, “Motorists travelling from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe to connect Oyingbo, and continue their journeys via Murtala Muhammed Way.”
For motorists moving from Ijora Olopa or Apapa towards Carter Bridge or Marina, the government advised them to use Eko Bridge.
It said they should connect Apapa Road and continue through Murtala Muhammed Way via Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.
The government stated, “Motorists travelling from Ijora Olopa/Apapa towards Carter Bridge/Marina should use Eko Bridge by connecting Apapa Road to continue their journeys through Murtala Muhammed Way via Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.”
The Lagos State Government urged commuters and motorists to remain patient during the temporary closure and cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed to the affected areas.
The statement further advised that “motorists are implored to be patient and cooperate with the traffic management officials during the temporary closure.”
The government explained that the diversion plan was part of broader traffic management measures designed to support ongoing bridge rehabilitation works by the Federal Ministry of Works in Lagos.
It assured motorists that officials would be on the ground to manage traffic flow and reduce inconvenience during the closure periods.
