N-Power Latest Updates

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq has spoken on the planned exit for N-Power beneficiaries.

She disclosed that the federal government is not looking at making the scheme permanent for the beneficiaries, but working to give them viable exit options.

The Minister who spoke during her visit last Thursday to the corporate headquarters of Media Trust Limited, noted that N-Power beneficiaries already understand that the scheme is for two years and not a permanent arrangement.

“I don’t know the fears of the beneficiaries, but I know that government had this N-Power programme and it is supposed to be a two- year programme,” Farouq said.

She also gave reasons why those who joined the scheme in 2016 and are supposed to have exited the scheme are still within the system.

“Those in 2016 were supposed to have exited in 2018, but because there was no plan in place, the tenure was extended.

“So, they know from the outset that it’s not a programme that will be there for life.

“For us as a ministry, we’re looking at all options for the planned exit.

“We’re not just going to exit them to their fate, we have options and we’re deploring these options so that they can have something to fall back on.”

She added that before the end of the year 2020, it is expected that the government would have been able to reveal its exit plan to the affected beneficiaries.

“The year has just started and we hope that before the end of the year, we should come up with an exit plan,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Naija News reports that as at the time of filing this report, N-Power beneficiaries (both batch A and B) are yet to get their monthly stipend for the month of January.
