[BREAKING] Presidential Election: Results From Atiku's Ward In Adamawa Emerges

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed why violence and killings persist in Nigeria.

The former Vice President noted that the failure of the judiciary to ensure that perpetrators of crime are punished are responsible for the continuous killings in the country.

Atiku stated this while reacting to the recent attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.

Recall that Naija News reported that ten people were killed by unknown gunmen during an attack on Kwatas village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He called on the justice system in the country to punish perpetrators of crimes according to the gravity of their crime.

The former Vice President in a statement through his Media Aide, Paul Ibe: “A society with a derelict justice system is a fertile land for misconduct, according to a popular Africa adage.”

“To be sure that we are one step ahead of criminals who pose existential threats to our internal security, it is important that we empower our justice system with the belief that when stiff punishments are handed down on these criminals, there will be a deterrence for a repeat of this nature of crime.”

“So, there is no deterrence to such crimes. Justice is thus key to promoting peace in our communities.”

“If you give people the confidence that anyone who breaks the law will be found and made to face the full wrath of the law, then people will be less inclined to promote violence and the killings that come with it.”

He commended the military and other security agencies for their efforts in fighting against insecurity.
