Breaking: One Trapped As 3 Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Reports reaching Naija News on Friday morning has revealed that a man has been trapped in an uncompleted three-storey building which collapsed at around Ago Palace way, Lagos State.

According to the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, he disclosed that rescue team are already making effort to evacuate the yet to be identified man from the collapsed building.

Dr Oke added that the impact of the collapsed structure which is said to be under construction before the incident has affected other adjacent structures around the scene of the incident, adding that once the recovery operation was completed, the remaining parts of the collapsed building would undergo a controlled demolition exercise.

He said, “Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a three-storey building approaching completion had collapsed. An adult male is presently trapped under the rubble and we have commenced a rescue operation.”

“Initial findings revealed that the collapsed building is a three-storey building under construction. The impact of the collapse has affected the adjacent structures but the resultant crowd is under control.

“Extrication and recovery of the trapped man are ongoing using all emergency light tools at our disposal. Once completed, the remains of the structure will undergo a controlled demolition exercise.”

This was coming barely two months after a building collapsed in Enu Owa area of Lagos Island, hospitalizing no fewer than five persons.

This was made known in a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Public Relations Officer, Nosa Okunbor.

He said the collapsed building site had been cordoned off to forestall secondary incidents.

According to Okunbor, residents had been told to avoid the area. He added that the victims had been moved to nearby hospitals.
