Akin Alabi Opposes Move To Spend N37b On NASS Renovation

Otunba Akin Alabi, a federal lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in Oyo State has stated his view on the proposed plan to spend N37 billion on the renovation of the National Assembly complex.

The lawmaker, who is also a businessman who owns a popular betting company in Nigeria was of the view that the money budgeted for renovation should rather be used to build more schools and hospitals for the citizens of the nation.

“I see no reason why we should spend N37b renovating the National Assembly. Yes, we need upgrade on some aspects like the electronic systems (sound system, voting system etc) as they are outdated but N37b? No. Let’s spend that on our schools and hospitals,” he said on Sunday.

Alabi’s reaction is coming after another lawmaker, representing Ede federal constituency, Honourable Bamidele Salam declared his intention of opposing the plan in the house in January 2020.

Naija News recalls that several reactions have continued to meet the plan by the government to spend such a large sum of money on NASS renovation with many Nigerians who have expressed their views arguing that such a move is a misplaced priority.
