1. Ministerial Appointment: Nwajiuba Dumps Accord Party For APC 24hrs After Nomination

Emeka Nwajiuba, the house of representatives member representing EHIME MBANO/ IHITE Uboma/ Ubowo Federal Constituency, who was recently nominated in the ministerial list, has defected from the Accord Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The defection of the lawmaker was announced by the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase while reading a letter from the lawmaker

2. Atiku Reacts To US Travel Ban On Nigerian Politicians

Former Vice President and 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the decision of the United States to place a travel ban on some Nigerians.

Atiku’s reaction follows the statement from the US State Department on Tuesday which condemned the action of some politicians which it claimed undermined Nigeria’s democracy during the 2019 general elections.

3. President Buhari Swears In Tanko Mohammed As CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed as the 18th substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Naija News understands that the new CJN took his oath of office at a brief ceremony inside the presidential conference room in the Aso Rock Villa on Wednesday.

4. Opposition Party Withdraws Petition Against Buhari At Presidential Tribunal

One of the opposition parties challenging the election victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 23 presidential election has withdrawn its petition.

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), on Wednesday, applied to withdraw its petition challenging the outcome of the 2019 presidential election in Nigeria.

5. Senate Begins Screening Of Buhari’s Ministerial List

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, July 24th, began the screening of the individuals on the ministerial list forwarded to it by President Muhammadu Buhari.

As previously reported by Naija News, the President sent a list of 43 nominations to the lawmakers for screening and confirmation as next level ministers for his second term in office.

6. EFCC Seals Okorocha’s Property In Imo State

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission have sealed Rochas Foundation College, located in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Operatives of the EFCC have also sealed East High Primary and Secondary school, Owerri which Naija News understand belongs to Rochas Okorocha’s first daughter, Uloma Nwosu.

7. House Of Reps Re-Introduce Peace Corps, 3 Other Bills

Four bills passed by the 8th House of Representatives but not assented by President Muhammadu Buhari have been committed to a committee of the whole by the 9th House of Rep members.

The bills are the Peace Corps bill, Terrorism (Prohibition and Prevention) Bill, 2019, Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (Establishment) Bill, 2019 (HB. 57); and National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons Bill, 2019.

8. Buhari Shouldn’t Have Included Akpabio In His Ministerial List – Sagay

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, (PACAC), Itse Sagay on Wednesday, faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to nominate Godswill Akpabio as Minister.

Sagay in his submission noted that Akpabio’s nomination contradicted the stance of the Buhari administration on corruption as the former Senate Minority Leader is still under investigation for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

9. Gbajabiamila Advocates Legislation For Cryptocurrency

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has said that there is a need to come up with a legislation on cryptocurrency, which is gradually becoming acceptable all over the world.

The Speaker said the legislation became necessary to regulate transactions involving cryptocurrency for Nigeria not to be left behind.

10. Ministerial Nominee: We Weren’t Consulted On Choice Of Oyo Nominee – APC

All Progressives Congress (APC)‘s chairman, Oyo State chapter, Chief Akin Oke has expressed his disappointment that the party was not consulted on the choice of a minister to represent the state.

He, however, wished the new cabinet members-designated well, while speaking with newsmen in a telephone interview.
