Kidnappers Strike On Akure-Ado Road

Yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Tuesday, attacked and kidnapped 28 travellers along the Ado-Akure highway in Ondo State.

Reports by residents of the area have it that the travellers were occupying two commercial vehicles, an 18-seater bus and the other a 9-seater vehicle with its driver.

The bad portion of the road allowed the gunmen to carry out their operation, Naija News understands.

A video, posted on Twitter which is now going viral on the internet showed how residents of the area were complaining about the bad condition of the road which has made it easier for the kidnappers and other criminals to carry out their activities.

“Our cars here are now passing through Ilawe. If anyone is kidnapped among us, who will bail him? We wonder the condition of the families of those kidnapped passengers will be right now,” one of the residents in the video said.

Meanwhile, governors from the South-Western part of the country, met in Ibadan on Tuesday where they discussed the general security situation in the region and how to overcome it including the high rate of kidnappings along highways in the region.
