Members of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, who lost at the party’s primaries has told members of the party to count them out of an alleged plan to remove the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

They also stated that the plan to remove Oshiomhole was a ‘symptom of unhappiness by aggrieved party members and a threat that has a limited capacity.’

Report had revealed that the chairmen of the party in the 36 states are working with some notable people in the party to unseat Oshiomhole.

The Edo State APC Chairman, Anselm Ojezua, who reacted to the report in a chat with Punch on Sunday stated that, “We are not involved in any manner.

Ojezua claimed that the National Chairman of APC has the support of the chapter chairmen in the South-South and South-East, “So, nobody can be talking about removing him (Oshiomhole),”

He further stated that with the quality of the party in the country, a high level of desperation by the party aspirants did not come as a surprise.

Ojezua said, “So, the level of discontentment is also higher when you do not get it. Naturally, people will be unhappy and so, what you have seen is the symptom of that unhappiness.

“But the capacity to carry out any threat is limited because you will find out that we are said to have a problem in about four states. We have 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

So, four states, as against 37 (chapters) shows 90 per cent success. So, the national chairman deserves some credit there.”]

When he was questioned on the performance of Oshiomhole as chairman he said, “I have never thought that the national chairman was perfect. But I have always believed that he had the courage to do this job.

“I am convinced that he still has the courage. Perhaps, there are a few things he could have done differently.

“But it does not remove from the fact that we just have to keep moving. We cannot be deterred by the shortcomings that we have experienced in trying to do the right thing.”
