INEC Boss To Defend 2019 Election Budget Before NASS Joint Committee Today

NASS Meeting On 2019 Election Budget Deadlocked

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Yakubu Mahmood, will on Friday (today) appear before the joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Electoral Matters, Naija News understands .

The joint sitting of the two committees invited the INEC Chief, after noticing areas of differences in the Commission’s budget proposal for the 2019 election totaling N189.2b.

The legislators said they need clarifications in some unspecified aspects of the supplementary, and virement request of President Buhari, towards next year’s polls.

 “As we are all aware, yesterday (Wednesday) we invited the Chairman of INEC, who was in the National Assembly, who addressed the House of Representatives as well as the Senate. And today, our duty and responsibility was to try to harmonise what transpired yesterday between both houses and ensure that we cross the t’s and dot the i’s.

“The whole meeting was called consequent upon the letter of Mr. President requesting for supplementary and virement for the general elections of 2019.

“We have done what we needed to have done. And we have realised that there are a few differences. In view of that, it is the opinion of members of this joint committee that we invite the Chairman of INEC for further clarifications tomorrow (Friday) at 11a.m.
