1. President Buhari blames politicians for Plateau attacks

President Buhari has blamed politicians in the country for taking advantage of the clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country and using the situation to perpetrate wickedness.

The position of the President is contained in a press statement on Monday by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity in which the President decried how increasingly cheap human life was becoming in Nigeria.

2. Vice President Osinbajo visits Plateau state over killings

Following the attacks in Plateau State that left dozens of people dead in about 9 communities, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has visited the state to commemorate with the families of the victims of the attack.

Osinbajo, while promising that the perpetrators of the devilish act will be arrested and brought to face the wrath of the law, added that he was in the state to assess the situation and interact with leaders in the state.

3. JAMB set to announce 2018 admission cut off marks

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), is set to finalize decision on the cut off point for admission into tertiary institutions for 2018 academic year.

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the meeting would hold in Osun state.

4. Buhari dissolves NABTEB board

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dissolution of the Governing Board of the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) with immediate effect.

The Presidential directive also directed the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu to take immediate measures to reposition and refocus NABTEB for greater efficiency.

5. IGP deploys special intervention force to Plateau state

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has deployed Special Intervention Force to Plateau to restore peace following the massive killing of over 100 people and burning of fifty houses.

According to a statement by the Force Spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, two police aerial surveillance helicopters, five Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and three Police Mobile Force Units (PMF) were deployed to the state.

6. Saraki declares Nigeria not safe over farmer/herdsmen clashes

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has in the wake of the Plateau killings, stated that it was important for Nigerians to start having the assurances that the government was “decisively responding to the current threat to lives and properties in parts of the country.”

He expressed sadness over the sad happening and warned that it is sending signals that the country is not safe.

7. Nigerian army arrests two Boko Haram fuel suppliers

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of two persons suspected of supplying fuel to Boko Haram terrorists located in Nafada area of Gombe State.

According to a statement by Army spokesman, Brig.Gen Texas Chukwu, the suspects include Mohammed Adamu Zika, a driver and Bukar Adamu Haji, an assistant filling station manager in the area.

8. Court grants bail to Nnamdi Kanu’s co-defendants

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, granted bail to four pro-Biafra agitators- Bright Chimezie, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.

Trial Justice, Binta Nyako granted the defendants bail to the tune of N10million each with two sureties in like sum and also directed that the money should be deposited in cash to the Chief Registrar of the Court.

9. Ex-Minister, Akinjide returns N650m election money

Jumoke Akinjide, a Former Minister of of the Federal Capital Territory returned N650million she allegedly received ahead of the 2015 election, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed this to the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday.

She is standing trail along side Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Oyo State Chief Olarenwaju Otiti, a former Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District Ayo Adeseun and a former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.

10. Nigeria overtakes India as country with world’s poorest people

Nigeria has overtaken India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, according to a new report by the World Poverty Clock.

At the end of May 2018, the survey showed that Nigeria had an estimated 87 million people in extreme poverty, compared to India’s 73 million.
