1. National Assembly threatens to impeach Buhari

Members of the Senate and House of Representatives, after a joint sitting of both houses yesterday, threatened to impeach President Buhari if certain demands made by the lawmakers are not met.

The law makers issued a 12-point condition at the end of their sitting on Tuesday, threatening to invoke its powers if nothing is done.

2. FG seeks court approval to resume Melaye’s trial

Mr. Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has sought the approval of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, to continue the trial of the embattled Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, which was adjourned indefinitely to enable the embattled senator recover fully.

Melaye has already resumed legislative duties, prompting government’s move to resume his trial.

3. National Assembly passes vote of no confidence on IGP Ibrahim Idris

The National Assembly has passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, they further resolved to do all within their powers to uphold democracy.

The three hours of closed door meeting is not unconnected with the perceived threat of lawmakers by the executive arm.

4. President Buhari holds closed door meeting with security chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, held a closed door meeting with the country’s security chiefs at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The President was briefed on current security situations in the country and efforts at tackling them.

5. DSS restores five of Saraki’s security detail

The Department Of State Services (DSS), have partially returned some of its operatives who were earlier withdrawn from the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The secret police on Saturday, reportedly withdrew nearly about half of the personal security details attached to the Senate President and the remaining three presiding officers of the National Assembly.

6. EFCC denies plans to freeze Rivers government account

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have refuted the claims by the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike that it is planning to freeze the account of the Rivers State Government.

Nnaghe Obono Itam, a top official of the commission made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

7. Court orders continued trial of Alao-Akala for N11.5bn fraud

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has rejected the application by an ex-governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, and the Chief Executive Officer of Pentagon Consults, Olufemi Babalola, for a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of an appeal at the Supreme Court.

The accused are standing trial for offences bordering on alleged criminal conspiracy and fraudulent practices to the tune of N11.5 billion.

8. APC is a failed party – Shehu Sani

The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Mr Shehu Sani, said the APC had failed to set an example for other parties by failing to organize hitch-free congresses, a situation which he believes was a reflection of the party’s realities.

He said this while explaining why the APC congresses were marred with violence in various state.

9. Suspected herdsmen kill three police officers in Nasarawa

Three policemen have been killed by suspected herdsmen at Maraban-Udege village in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.

The Nasarawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP. Samaila Usman, who confirmed the incidence, told newsmen in Lafia that the three policemen were ambushed and killed on their way to quell a crisis between Agatu farmers and Fulani herdsmen.

10. Dogara warns against increased violence as 2019 approaches

Speaker Yakubu Dogara has cautioned on the need to curb spate of violence in the country as the 2019 general elections approach.

He said this while playing host to a delegation from Security Sector Reform of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria and Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre at his office.
