2017 Batch B NYSC Corps Sworn In Rivers State

The 2017 Batch b Stream 2 of the national youth service corps, NYSC has kicked off with the swearing in of more than 2000 corps members in Rivers State. The ceremony took place at the NYSC orientation camp in Tai Local Government area of the state and Correspondent Uche Okoro was there.

This batch of NYSC members comprises 1090 females and 1188 males making a total of 2278 corps members on ground at this orientation camp.

However 600 out of that number are those posted to Bayelsa State while another 650 were posted to Akwa-Ibom State and they would be heading for their different states of deployment after the three-week orientation program in Rivers State, which commenced on January 11 and will round off February 5th 2018.

Despite their pledge to pay the ultimate sacrifice in service of their nation, NYSC officials said adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee safety of the corps members.

The Secretary to the state Government, Kenneth Kobani, represented Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike at the ceremony.

A minute of silence was later observed in honor of a corps member, Umoh James who died after being hit by stray bullets from unknown gunmen in Port Harcourt on January 8 2018.
