Herdsman remanded in prison over rape in Ibadan

Tribunal rejects PDP's request

A Fulani herdsman, Abubakar Likita has been remanded at Agodi prison by an Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State for allegedly raping a married woman.

19-year-old Likita, who reared cattles around Idiya Village in Ile-Ido, Ibadan was arraigned on a charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a married woman.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the 19-year-old committed the offence on August 14 at about 5 pm. at Idiya Village.

Adegbite said: “On the fateful day, the woman was in her farm when Likita attacked her from behind.

“The attack resulted in the woman sustaining injury at the back of her forehead and neck where the accused held her.”

Adegbite stated in court that the offence breached Section 357, punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.38, Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.

However, the court dismissed the plea of the 19-year-old.
After listening to Adegbite, the Senior Magistrate, Mrs Patricia Adetuyibi, ruled that Likita be remanded in Agodi Prison pending advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions.

Consequently, she adjourned the matter till October 5.
