The PUNCH: The House of Representatives Committee on Defence, on Friday, held an emergency meeting with the military high command over threats by terrorists to attack the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Saturday PUNCH learnt that the committee’s meeting with military top brass on Friday took place about 24 hours after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), met with the nation’s security chiefs under the auspices of the National Security Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Guardian: Despite assurances by Nigeria’s security forces that they are well positioned to contain the current wave of terrorist threats on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, residents of the city have not been sleeping with both eyes closed.

Nobody was rejected in the party. But you must understand that it’s the prerogative of the candidate to pick his running mate – a running mate he believes he can work with amicably, and then also deliver the policies of the party, and also try to unify the country,” the PDP candidate said in the interview.

The Nation: Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday fired the first of his salvos at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over the process that produced Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the party’s presidential running mate.
