Unknown gunmen kill community leader in Plateau.

A community chief leader has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The killing which occurred on Sunday night is the fifth murder of a local leader in the vicinity in about 2 years.

The latest incident involves the Madakin Garam, Tarangol village, Amos Marit.

Marit was traced to his residence in Fakkos village and was consequently shot by the hoodlums.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mathias Tyopev, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said investigation is ongoing to fish out the perpetrators.

“Yes, it happened. Two of the man’s relative came to the Station and reported that around 8.35pm on Sunday, some people broke into his house and he was shot at the back and the people ran away.

“The relative took him to a hospital there in Bokkos where he died in the process of receiving treatment.

“The area is peaceful as we speak but investigation is on to ascertain those behind the dastardly act,” Tyopev said.
