1. FG gives order to freeze CJN Onnoghen’s bank accounts
Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has been asked to freeze five bank accounts belonging to Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, who explained that the demand was based on a presidential executive order, gave the directive pending the determination of the case against Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
2. IGP Adamu Mohammed appoints Frank Mba new Police PRO
The new Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Adamu Mohammed has appointed Frank Mba as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Force.
Naija News reports that the development means Mba will replace Jimoh Moshood who has been serving the Force in that capacity.
The new Police PRO, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), studied law at the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2002.
3. I will privatize NNPC even if it costs me my life – Atiku
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has described the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as a “Mafia organization.”
Atiku who spoke during an interactive session with the business community in Lagos, vowed to privatize the NNPC, even if it would cost him his life, if elected in the forthcoming election.
4. Finally, CCB personally serves CJN Walter Onnoghen
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has at last succeeded in serving the criminal charges on false asset declaration on the person of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
The development makes it mandatory for him to personally appear for his arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) which was adjourned till January 22, 2019.
5. Court orders final forfeiture of N2.2b recovered from former Chief Of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of N2.2billion recovered from former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu to the Federal Government.
The order was made, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
6. Minimum wage to be presented to NEC today
The Federal Government is set to present the N30,000 new National Minimum Wage proposal to the National Economic Council on Thursday for further consultations.
This was after of an extraordinary meeting of the Federal Executive Council, which ended in Abuja on Tuesday night.
7. FG has borrowed over N6tr from pension funds
The Federal Government has borrowed about N6.16 trillion out of the N8.49 trillion pension assets under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
These figures were released by the National Pension Commission (NPC) on Tuesday in Abuja, revealing the FG’s borrowing represents 73.5 percent of the pension fund.
8. EFCC invites Fani-Kayode, Odumakin over ‘fake news’
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made good its word, as it has invited a former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode and Yinka Odumakin, a chieftain of Afenifere, for alleging that the commission was making efforts to arrest the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
Tony Orilade, the spokesman of the commission made this development known at the conference of Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) in Abuja.
9. Osinbajo expresses sadness over trial of Walter Onnoghen
Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed sadness over the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, on allegations of false and non-asset declarations.
Osinbajo, who bore his mind during the Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) conference in Abuja, with the theme “Free Press and Objective Reporting in the 2019 Election Year.’’
Osinbajo insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari had no knowledge of the plan to arraign Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), until Saturday evening.
10. Former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo acquitted of crimes against humanity
Laurent Gbagbo was acquitted on Tuesday of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court ( ICC ), which ordered the release of the former president of Côte d’Ivoire.
“The Chamber grants the requests for acquittal presented by Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé (former leader of the Young Patriots Movement, loyal to Mr. Gbagbo) concerning all the charges” against them and “orders the the immediate freedom of the two accused, “said Presiding Judge Cuno Tarfusser.
