People Closest To Me Said I Was Lazy – Tekno Opens Up On Absence From Music Scene

Nigerian singer and songwriter Augustine Kelechi, better known as Tekno, has opened up on the reason behind his prolonged absence from music.

He explained that he suffered severe vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux, a condition that affected his ability to sing for an extended period.

The singer stated that he was in a very dark place, adding that after the surgery, he lost interest in music.

Naija News reports that Tekno made the revelation during an interview with Cool FM.

He said the situation was made even more painful by the assumptions of those around him, explaining that many people, including some close to him, believed he had simply become lazy and no longer wanted to work.

According to him, “Even the people closest to me were saying that ‘he is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform. I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal.”

The singer explained that, beyond his physical recovery, he also had to overcome the emotional impact of being misunderstood and judged during one of the most difficult periods of his career. He said healing from the stigma attached to his absence took time and intentional effort before he was able to reconnect with music.
