I Couldn’t Pay For My Surgery – Tekno Opens Up On Health Challenge

Nigerian music star Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, popularly known as Tekno, has opened up about the difficult period he faced after losing his voice and refunding over $1 million to event organizers.

Naija News reports that the singer shared that the health challenge affected his career and finances, forcing him to cancel several shows and return payments made for performances.

He described the period as one of the toughest moments he has experienced.

Tekno made the revelation during an interview with Cool FM, where he spoke about how his vocal condition affected his life and career.

The 33-year-old artiste explained that the situation became worse because he struggled to raise money for the medical treatment he needed at the time.

After refunding a huge amount of money from cancelled events, he found himself unable to immediately cover the cost of his surgery.

He later received help from a performance in Cameroon that was arranged a year earlier. The show brought in about $110,000, but after paying for expenses connected to the event, he was left with only $3,000.

He said: “I was refunding so much money over $1 million worth, that was very dark. Even after my surgery, I couldn’t pay for the surgery. For me, I really understand that life is a journey.

“I could be mad at myself or be mad at God, saying why me, why at the time where I was literally sitting on top of everything and lose my voice. I’m able to still wake up and smile and laugh and then keep doing what I do which is music.”
