Oyo: APC Protesters Rejects Sharafadeen As Gov Candidate, Ask For Adelabu
Supporters of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday continued their protest at the Oyo State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party must not impose a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Naija News reports that the protesters, who chanted solidarity songs and carried placards in support of Adelabu, said the APC must allow a transparent and democratic process in choosing its governorship flagbearer.
They warned that any alleged attempt to impose a candidate could undermine internal democracy and further divide the party in the state.
The demonstrators insisted that Adelabu remained their preferred choice for the governorship ticket.
“It’s Bayo Adelabu that we want as our candidate, we say no to Sharafadeen Alli. It’s either Adelabu or say goodbye to 2027 elections,” some of the protesters said.
They urged the leadership of the party to ensure fairness, equity and due process in the build-up to the primary election.
The protesters also questioned the governorship ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, arguing that he should clarify his political intentions amid reports linking him to the pursuit of a traditional royal stool.
According to them, anyone seeking to become a traditional ruler should not at the same time be pursuing the state’s highest political office.
The protest entered another phase on Thursday as the supporters maintained their call for the APC leadership to respect the wishes of party members in Oyo State.
