Ondo APC Leaders Back Aiyedatiwa, Move To Reconcile Aggrieved Members
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has met with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state as part of efforts to reconcile aggrieved members following the party’s National Assembly primaries.
Naija News reports that the meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, ended with the party stakeholders unanimously reaffirming Aiyedatiwa as the leader of the APC in Ondo State.
The leaders also pledged to intensify mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders resolved to promote internal reconciliation, strengthen cohesion within the APC and uphold the party’s unity and progressive ideals in the state.
The Chairman of the GAC, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the meeting was the first held by the council since the party primaries, describing it as a demonstration of the leaders’ commitment to resolving internal differences and protecting the stability of the APC.
“This council last met on August 9, 2025. We thank God for preserving us and giving us another chance to discuss issues affecting Ondo State and our party,” Akinyelure said.
He maintained that unity remained the party’s greatest strength, noting that disagreements arising from political contests were normal in a democracy and could be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and sacrifice.
Akinyelure urged party leaders and government officials to work collectively ahead of the 2027 elections to surpass the APC’s performance in the state during the 2023 presidential poll.
According to him, Ondo recorded the second-highest percentage of votes for Tinubu nationwide in the election.
He also commended the Aiyedatiwa administration and appealed to party members to shun bitterness and actions capable of deepening divisions within the APC.
Speaking after the meeting, the GAC chairman said the leaders reviewed several issues affecting the party and expressed satisfaction with the measures being taken to consolidate unity.
A former senator representing Ondo North, Ajayi Boroffice, said the meeting resolved to rally behind the governor and ensure that all party members recognised his leadership.
Boroffice stated, “Aiyedatiwa is the institution representing the APC in Ondo State.
“We will also intensify mobilisation for President Tinubu and engage the national leadership to reaffirm our solidarity.”
Boroffice said the party leaders were determined to strengthen the APC and address issues arising from recent political contests.
The APC South-West Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said more than 30 party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
He added that the stakeholders resolved that all political support groups operating within the APC in Ondo State should function under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
Kekemeke also appealed to the APC national leadership to ensure that major stakeholders in Ondo State were carried along in decisions affecting the state chapter of the party.
