Sokoto Local Govt Chairman Resigns Position, Dumps APC

Hon. Isa Salihu Kalenjine has resigned from his position as the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council in Sokoto State.

Naija News reports that Kalenjine, in his letter, dated 7th July, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sokoto State, cited unavoidable administrative challenges as the reason for his resignation.

He added that he is no longer able to execute the responsibilities of the office as expected og him.

Kalenjine noted that he took the decision after due consultations with his family, key political associates, and community stakeholders.

The letter was titled ‘LETTER OF RESIGNATION AS EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF TANGAZA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA’.

It reads, “Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government, effective immediately from today.

“This difficult decision has been reached after extensive consultations with my family, key political associates, and community stakeholders.

“Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me.

“I am incredibly grateful to the electorate, the Council’s legislative arm, and the entire staff for the privilege and opportunity to serve our people.

“I wish the incoming leadership and administration continued success.”

Kalenjine had earlier, in a separate letter, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This development was contained in a resignation letter dated May 5, 2026, and issued to newsmen on Tuesday night in Sokoto.

The politician, in the letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman, Kalanjeni Ward, Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, said his resignation as a member of the party are based purely on personal reasons.

“I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.
