18 APC First-Term Govs Meet Behind Closed Doors In Kebbi
Eighteen first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting at the Kebbi State Government House.
The meeting, hosted by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, brought together APC governors from across the country. Details of the meeting’s agenda were not immediately disclosed.
Journalists gathered at the Government House awaiting a briefing from the governors at the end of the meeting.
Governors in attendance were drawn from Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, Plateau, Delta, Ekiti, Taraba, Ondo, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Benue, Kogi and Enugu states, among others.
The governors of Cross River, Niger and Katsina states were, however, absent from the meeting. It was gathered that the three governors sent apologies for their absence.
APC Defends Candidate Substitutions
In other news, APC has defended its controversial substitution of some candidates after its primaries, insisting that the changes followed a legitimate internal appeal process.
Naija News reports that the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the decisions were reached after reviewing more than 720 petitions submitted by aggrieved aspirants.
Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Morka dismissed allegations that the ruling party arbitrarily replaced candidates or handed tickets to people who did not participate in the primaries.
According to Morka, APC acted in line with its constitution and guidelines.
