Tobi Amusan Equals Season’s Best To Win Paris Diamond League
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan announced her return to top form with a commanding win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday, June 29, matching her season’s best time of 12.28 seconds.
The world record holder crossed the line well clear of the field at Stade Charléty, finishing ahead of American duo Grace Stark, who clocked 12.38 seconds, and Alaysha Johnson, who followed in 12.39 seconds.
Tobi Amusan’s winning time equalled the 12.28 seconds she posted at both the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings earlier this season, making it the third time she has recorded the mark in 2026.
The Nigerian delivered another composed performance despite difficult conditions in the French capital. The meeting went ahead on a revised timetable after a severe heatwave across France forced organisers to cancel all lower-tier youth and regional club events. Track temperatures climbed to 32 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon.
Amusan recovered after Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser made the quicker start, producing a powerful finish to take control before the closing stages.
She exploded from the blocks and “executed a flawless technical race over the barriers, establishing a clear lead by the midway point and comfortably cruising through the tape.”
The victory was Amusan’s second Diamond League success of the season after her triumph in Rabat. She also won the New Taipei City Athletics Open earlier this month, further building momentum.
The 28-year-old began the year after securing a fourth straight African title and now looks firmly on course for the Diamond League Final later this season. Having won three consecutive Diamond League crowns between 2021 and 2023, she will be hoping to reclaim the title.
