Tobi Amusan Sets Rabat Diamond League Meeting Record, Targets Title Comeback
Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star, Tobi Amusan, produced her best performance of the season so far after storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday.
The world record holder clocked 12.28 seconds to win the race and break her own meeting record, matching the season-leading mark she had set earlier this year. It was Amusan’s first Diamond League victory of the campaign after opening the season with a second-place finish in Xiamen. Devynne Charlton finished second in 12.40s, while Nadine Visser came third in 12.47s.
The winning time ranks as the joint third-fastest performance of Amusan’s career. Her world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022, remains her quickest run, followed by the 12.24 seconds she recorded at the Meeting de Paris in 2025.
Having shown steady progress throughout the season, the meeting record provided extra reward for the Nigerian’s efforts.
“I am really pleased with the result, I felt like I executed the race close to the best of my ability. Winning was the main objective and a Meeting Record is a fantastic bonus,” she told the Diamond League website.
“The atmosphere in Rabat is incredible and the crowd was absolutely electrifying. I have competed here several times and the support is always special. Looking ahead, my focus is to stay healthy for the upcoming events and continue performing at the highest level.”
Amusan arrived on the Diamond League circuit after securing a fourth consecutive African title and has continued to build momentum with each outing. The 28-year-old appears to be peaking at the right time with the Diamond League finale and the Commonwealth Games 2026 still to come.
