Joseph Momodu, Grace Bassey And Other Nollywood Stars Who Dumped Acting For US Military Service
For many years, Nollywood has produced actors and actresses who have built successful careers on television and in films.
While many remain in the entertainment industry, a few have taken a completely different path by joining the United States military after relocating abroad.
Naija News compiled a list of Nollywood stars who traded movie sets for military uniforms:
1. Joseph Momodu – US Army

Joseph Momodu, born Abubakar Sadiq Momodu, became the latest Nollywood actor to enlist in the US Army after completing his Basic Combat Training in April 2026.
Before leaving acting, he featured in films such as Coming to Nigeria, Play 2 Kill, and A Fool for Trust.
He also appeared in popular television series, including Tinsel, Soul Sisters, and The Johnsons.
Momodu said his decision was partly inspired by his late father, who served in the Nigerian Police Force.
2. Princess Chineke – US Army
Actress Princess Chineke joined the US Army in December 2024 after relocating to the United States.
She was known for her roles in movies such as To Love a Sister, Stormy Hearts, and Masters at War.
She announced the move on social media, revealing that she had answered the call to serve the United States.
3. Mayowa Dosu – US Army
Actress and producer Mayowa Dosu also chose a military career after moving to the US.
She announced her enlistment around the same period as Princess Chineke, marking a major change from her acting career.
Before joining the military, she featured in productions including Fears, Mamami, and Compromise.
4. Grace-Charis Bassey (Belinda Effah) – US Navy
Former Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, enlisted in the US Navy in May 2025.
After completing boot camp, she became a US citizen.
The award-winning actress dedicated the achievement to her late father, who had served as a naval commander.
Before leaving Nollywood, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Most Promising Act of the Year.
The decision by these entertainers reflects a growing trend among some Nigerians living in the United States who are exploring military service as a new career path while also gaining opportunities for personal and professional growth.
